She treats patients of all ages. Dr. Joseph’s residency and fellowship training included working in a specialized clinic for women’s mood disorders, working on the perinatal psychiatry inpatient unit, working in a specialized clinic for developmental disorders, and working on an inpatient eating disorders psychiatric unit in addition to standard training. This prepared her to see patients with a broad range of concerns. Dr. Joseph enjoys treating most areas of mental health, but she has developed special areas of interest in treating ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression, OCD, Tourette Syndrome, reproductive psychiatry, and patients with autism. Through her interests in Tourette Syndrome and OCD, Dr. Joseph has seen numerous patients with PANS/PANDAS and has taken extra educational opportunities to learn how to diagnose and treat this complex condition. However, some of the treatments that patients with PANS/PANDAS require are outside of the scope of psychiatry and this condition requires multi-disciplinary treatment. Any patients seeking care for this should understand that Dr. Joseph eagerly collaborates with primary care, rheumatology, neurology, immunology, or other specialties involved her patients’ care, but she is not able to function in the role of a primary care physician, rheumatologist, immunologist, neurologist, or other non psychiatric speciality. Taking a thorough approach to treatment, Dr. Joseph considers biological, developmental, psychological, learning, interpersonal, family dynamic, and environmental issues in understanding each patient’s unique issues and therapeutic needs. She believes in a collaborative approach as well, communicating with therapists, school teachers, other doctors, and family members as needed. Clinical services provided by Dr. Joseph include comprehensive diagnostic assessments, medication consultation and management, individual psychotherapy, school consultation, maintenance of treatment, coordination of care with other community and clinical providers, and multidisciplinary team treatment involvement. Dr. Joseph received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Tulane University where she went on to attain a Master of Science in Neuroscience. She then attended Eastern Virginia Medical School. Dr. Joseph completed her General Psychiatry Residency and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was honored to serve as Chief Fellow. She has given lectures to UNC Psychiatry residents and fellows, as well as provided education to the staff of a Wake County Public School about helping children with Tourette Syndrome in the classroom.
